Mae llygredd aer yng Nghymru yn effeithio arnom o’n hanadl gyntaf hyd at ein hanadl olaf Ond mae llawer o gamau syml y gallwn ni eu cymryd i wella ansawdd aer ac edrych ar ôl ein hiechyd ein hunain ac iechyd pobl eraill.

Mae Diwrnod Aer Glân Cymru, a gaiff ei ariannu gan Lywodraeth Cymru, yn rhan o ymgyrch Diwrnod Aer Glân ledled y Deyrnas Unedig, a dyma ymgyrch fwyaf Cymru ar gyfer codi ymwybyddiaeth o ansawdd aer.

Mae’n gyfle i wybod mwy am lygredd aer, rhannu gwybodaeth, a gwneud yr aer yn lanach ac iachach i bawb.

Beth yw llygredd aer?

Mae llygredd aer yn derm cyffredinol am lawer o wahanol fathau o lygredd yn yr aer o’n cwmpas. Gall yr holl lygryddion hyn gael eu hanadlu i mewn a’u hamsugno i mewn i’ch corff. Caiff gwahanol fathau o lygredd aer eu hachosi gan wahanol bethau. Gan amlaf, mae llygredd aer yn anweledig i’r llygad noeth.

What is air pollution?

Air pollution is an umbrella term for lots of different types of pollution in the air around us. All these pollutants can be inhaled and absorbed into your body. Different types of air pollution are caused by different things. Mostly, air pollution is invisible to the naked eye.

O ble mae llygredd aer yn dod?

Mae llawer o ffynonellau o lygredd aer gan gynnwys:

  • trafnidiaeth ffyrdd
  • cynhyrchu ynni
  • diwydiant
  • tanau agored
  • amaethyddiaeth.

Where does air pollution come from?

There are many sources of air pollution including:

  • road transport
  • energy generation
  • industry
  • open fires
  • agriculture.

Sut mae llygredd aer yn niweidio iechyd?

Mae llygredd aer yn effeithio ar eich corff mewn llawer o ffyrdd. Gall gynyddu’r risg o rai problemau iechyd a gall wneud problemau iechyd sy’n bod eisoes yn waeth.

Gall bod yn agored i lygredd aer gynyddu symptomau peswch a fflem i oedolion a chynyddu’r risg o ddal niwmonia bacterol.

Dros gyfnod hirach, gall bod yn agored i lygredd aer gynyddu eich risg o ganser yr ysgyfaint.

Mae llygredd aer wedi cael ei gysylltu hefyd â phwysedd gwaed uchel ac afiechyd cardiofasgwlaidd (y galon a phibelli gwaed), gan gynnwys culhau’r rhydwelïau.

How does air pollution damage health?

Air pollution affects your body in lots of ways. It can increase the risk of some health problems and can make existing health problems worse.

Exposure to air pollution can increase cough and phlegm symptoms for adults and increase the risk of getting bacterial pneumonia.

Over the longer term, your exposure to air pollution can increase your risk of lung cancer.

Air pollution has also been linked to high blood pressure and cardiovascular disease (heart and blood vessels), including furring of the arteries.

Llygredd aer a phlant

Mae plant yn dal i ddatblygu eu horganau a’u systemau imiwnedd ac mae eu cyrff a’u llwybrau anadlu llai yn eu gwneud yn arbennig o agored i niwed gan aer budr.

Oherwydd eu maint, mae plant yn aml hefyd yn agosach i ffynonellau o lygredd aer, fel pibelli ecsôst ceir.

Gall llygredd aer chwarae rhan mewn achosi asthma i rai plant. I blant sydd ag asthma eisoes, gall bod yn agored i lygredd aer waethygu eu symptomau.

Gall bod yn agored i lygredd aer effeithio ar ddatblygiad ysgyfaint plant hefyd. Mewn ardaloedd gyda llygredd aer uchel, gallai arwain at rai plant yn dioddef problemau iechyd ar hyd eu hoes.

Air pollution and children

Children are still developing their organs and immune systems and their smaller bodies and airways make them especially vulnerable to dirty air.

Because of their size, children are also often closer to sources of air pollution, like car exhausts.

Air pollution can play a part in causing asthma for some children. For children who already have asthma, exposure to more air pollution can worsen their symptoms.

Being exposed to air pollution can also affect children’s lung development. In areas with high air pollution, it could be setting some children up for health problems throughout their lives.

Sut mae amddiffyn fy hun rhag llygredd aer?

Mae trafnidiaeth yn un o brif ffynonellau llygredd a gall newid sut rydym yn teithio leihau faint o lygredd rydym yn ei greu a faint o lygredd rydym yn ei anadlu i mewn.

Dyma rai ffyrdd hawdd o leihau’r graddau rydych yn agored i lygredd aer:

  1. Cerdded, beicio neu fynd ar sgwter pryd bynnag y gallwch yn hytrach na gyrru
Gall cael eich dal mewn traffig eich gwneud yn agored i lawer o lygredd. Gall aer llygredig o bibelli ecsôst cerbydau eraill gael ei sugno i mewn i’ch car, ac yn aml mae’n cael ei ddal yno, gan olygu eich bod yn anadlu llawer o lygredd i mewn. Fe wnaeth un arbrawf ddarganfod bod gyrrwr car yn agored i ddwywaith gymaint o lygredd â cherddwr a naw gwaith gymaint â beiciwr yn teithio’r un daith.

  2. Ceisio osgoi cerdded ar hyd y ffyrdd prysuraf
Mae llygredd aer wedi’i ganolbwyntio o amgylch y ffyrdd prysuraf, a gall mynd bellter byr yn unig oddi wrthynt wneud gwahaniaeth mawr. Dangoswyd bod ffyrdd tawelach yn peri lleihad o 20% yn y graddau rydych yn agored i lygredd.

  3. Gweithio o’ch cartref
Os yw eich gwaith yn caniatáu hyn, gall fod yn dda gweithio o’ch cartref o bryd i’w gilydd, fel y gallwch lwyr osgoi’r daith i’r gwaith. Gall hyn fod yn arbennig o ddefnyddiol ar ddyddiau o lygredd uchel yn yr aer.

  4. Peidiwch â gadael eich injan i redeg
Os ydych chi’n gyrru, diffoddwch eich injan pan fo’ch car yn llonydd, a phan fo’n ddiogel gwneud hynny.

  5. Teithiwch yn drydanol
Mae llawer o ffyrdd y gallwch deithio’n drydanol. Llogwch gar neu dacsi trydan, ac ystyriwch gael cerbyd trydan fel eich car nesaf.

How do I protect myself from air pollution?

Transport is a major source of pollution and changing how we travel can reduce how much pollution we create and how much pollution we breathe in.

Here are some easy ways to reduce your exposure to air pollution:

  1. Walk, cycle or scoot whenever you can rather than driving Being stuck in traffic can expose you to lots of pollution. Polluted air from the exhaust of other vehicles can get sucked into your car, and often stays trapped there, meaning you breathe in lots of pollution. One experiment found that a car driver was exposed to twice as much pollution as a pedestrian and nine times as much as a cyclist travelling the same journey.

  2. Try to avoid walking along the busiest roads
Air pollution concentrates around the busiest roads, and getting even a short distance away from them can make a big difference. Quieter roads have been shown to reduce your exposure to pollution by 20%.

  3. Work from home
If your work allows it can be good to work from home occasionally, so that you avoid the commute altogether. This can be especially helpful on high air pollution days

  4. Don't idle
If you drive, turn off your engine when your vehicle is stationary, and it is safe to do so.

  5. Travel electric
There are lots of ways you can travel electric. Hire an electric car or taxi, and think about an electric vehicle for your next car.
